Hello!
I'm Jeffrey Doherty, Operations Manager of Angel's. My parents
Angel and Paul Doherty started our business in 1957 as a small
road-side flower stand in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. The original
greenhouse was a small 20' x 50' glass greenhouse that was moved from
Fair Acres on Hayden Rowe to the top of Bayre Hill just west of
interstate 495 at the intersection of West Main and School Streets. This greenhouse was the original
propagation house that the Doherty brothers used in their florist
business from the early 1940's to the late 1950's.
My father Paul was
a school teacher by day and a grower by afternoons, weekends and
summers producing one crop, chrysanthemums. The sixties were busy
with three children to raise and expanding the business to include
spring pansies and other annuals.
The 70's were the
expansion years; acquiring land for the Garden Center, a new
greenhouse and more crops. The 80's and 90's saw the addition of two
more greenhouses, increasing the in-house crop production and
automation to the all-manual labor operation.
Today we are
growing on 30+ acres with eight greenhouses and the addition of a bark
mulch and firewood delivery business. We are growing 50,000 annuals and
perennials each year and enjoy a thriving winter business selling
Christmas trees, wreaths and decorations.
