Bar Harbor Blend
Premium Potting Soil
Bar
Harbor Blend is Coast of Maine's new, all-purpose potting soil introduced for the
2005 season. It is a rich, dark brown and full bodied, designed for
potting or re-potting house plants, planting hanging baskets, window
boxes and all containers. It can also be used as a seed starter and
for potting-up seedlings.
Bar Harbor Blend is made with
lobster and aspen bark compost, long staple horticultural grade
sphagnum peat moss and perlite. Like all compost-based soils, this
too requires less watering.
They named this blend for the town of Bar
Harbor, located on Mount Desert Island overlooking Frenchman Bay.
Bar Harbor is the gateway to Acadia National Park and one of the
jewels of the Maine coast.
It is available in one and two cubic foot bags
and 8 and 16 quart bags.
Cobscook Blend Gardening Soil
Cobscook Blend is a richly textured all-purpose gardening soil
designed for potting all larger, outdoor containers as well as
planting beds and borders. It is a dark, old-fashioned, full-bodied
soil with a pH of between 6.3 and 6.8. Because it is made with
compost, it also requires less watering and feeding.
Cobscook Blend is made with a blend of fully
matured and cured salmon, blueberry and cow manure composts, aged
bark, long staple sphagnum peat moss and horticultural limestone.
They named this blend for Cobscook Bay, a
complex maze of tidal inlets off Passamaquoddy Bay in Eastern Maine
and home to countless bald eagles, loons, moose and black bear.
It is available in one and two cubic foot (60
lb) bags.
Penboscot Blend Compost
& Peat
Penobscot Blend is Coast of Maine's popular all-purpose planting mix. A blend of
compost and peat, it is ideal for planting annuals, perennials,
roses, shrubs and trees or conditioning gardens, beds and borders.
It is rich in organic material, trace elements and nicely balances
drainage and water retention.
Penobscot Blend is made with fully matured and cured salmon,
blueberry and mussel composts (2/3) and sphagnum moss peat (1/3).
What makes Penobscot Blend unique are the
mussels. The shells are crushed during composting and add enough
calcium to naturally balance the blend's pH. Larger shell fragments
help aerate and add texture to your soil. According to some of our
customers it also helps control slugs.
They have named this blend for Penobscot Bay,
located in the heart of Maine's mid-coast and dotted with spruce
islands and picturesque fishing villages like Camden and Castine.
Penobscot Blend is available in one cubic foot
(40 lb) bags.
Quoddy Blend
Quoddy Blend is a blend of fully cured, fully matured composts
specifically designed for conditioning gardens, beds and borders,
re-conditioning poor or maintaining healthy soils, and for planting
trees, shrubs and roses. It is more coarsely textured than Penobscot
Blend, to help break up dense or compacted soils.
Quoddy Blend is made entirely from composted
crab, lobster, salmon and aspen bark with added composted cow manure
for texture. The crab and lobster shells are a rich source of
calcium and chitin, the aspen bark a source of tannins and lignins.
They have named this blend for Passamaquoddy
Bay, or "Quoddy" for short. The bay marks Maine's easternmost border
with Canada and its deep, nutrient-rich waters, protected inlets,
strong tides and currents make it ideal for salmon farming.
Quoddy is now produced for Coast of Maine in New Brunswick, Canada by
the same people with whom they partner in the production of Fermented
Salmon. It is available in 40 lb. bags.
Mohegan Blend
Black Earth
Monhegan Blend Black Earth is an exceptionally rich blend of
naturally composted barks and fine sand. The result is a light,
easy-to-use, all-purpose organic soil that is ideal both for top
dressing lawns and all lawn repair jobs.
A beautiful lawn starts with healthy soil.
That means soil with enough organic material to support the
beneficial microorganisms that process the essential nutrients that
feed your grass. Monhegan Blend is an excellent source of organic
material. Remember, a naturally healthy lawn is more drought, weed
and disease resistant and requires less watering and feeding.
They have named this blend for Monhegan Island,
a rocky outcropping twelve miles off Maine's mid coast and
accessible by ferry from the picturesque coastal village of Port
Clyde. The island is home to fishermen and supports a thriving
artists' colony in the summer.
It is available in 1 cubic foot bags
(approximate weight 30 lbs).
Schoodic Blend
Composted Manure
Schoodic Blend is a rich mixture of carefully cured and matured
composted cow and hen manures, designed for maintaining gardens,
beds and borders or re-conditioning soils with a history of poor
production. Compost is a rich source of organic material and will
help improve the moisture and nutrient holding capacity of your
soil.
Because the manures in Schoodic Blend are
composted with aspen bark, it is also lighter, thus easier to use
than most conventional manures. Nothing else has been added to
provide bulk or boost its analysis.
This blend is named for Schoodic Peninsula,
which frames the eastern side of Frenchman's Bay and is part of
Acadia National Park. You enter this less frequented part of the
Park via the villages of Winter Harbor and Birch Harbor and can
enjoy spectacular views of Mount Desert Island to the west.
The same people they partner with in the
production of Fermented Salmon produce Schoodic Blend for Coast of
Maine in New
Brunswick, Canada. It is available in 1 cubic foot bags (approximate
weight 30 lbs).
